Prep Data Options

New Question # Ordering

You can update the New Question # by using the link icon in the header. The link icon opens up a dialog box where you can change the New Question # by using a clicking and dragging interface or import option.

Drag and Drop

The drag and drop interface is normally used if you have a short survey and need to quickly move some questions around. You can click and drag or use the move buttons to change the order.

Refresh

The refresh button is used to recount the New Question # if you have any gaps or jumps in your array. This usually happens if you hide columns after your initial ordering of the New Question #, the result leaves gaps in your numbering. Not having gaps in your numbering will be important once your import the data in the Tableau Report Template.

Order Template and Import Order

If you have to make a lot of changes or have a very long survey you can use the Order Template to change the order of each New Question #. Download the Order Template and update the numbers so that there is one distinct New Question # per row. Next, save the file and upload it to update your New Question #'s.

Prep Data Actions

The action button on the Prep screen has a few different options to help you out. We have already talked about a few of them such as Hide and See Hidden Questions, below are the other options.

Apply New Question #

You can use this option to apply a New Question # to multiple columns at once. This is most helpful for when you have a lot of columns associated with one question number, you can use the SHFT button to select the first and last column to select them all at once and apply the New Question # with a few clicks. You can also use Ctrl to select multiple columns.

Split

Certain survey software's put multiple answers in one column separated by usually a common. This is most common with multiple choice type questions. You will need to separate those answer values so we can count the responses correctly. You can do this in the app by using the Split option. Select the columns(s) you want to split and then enter the delimiter that separates the answer values. Read the Split directions closely before applying.

Duplicate Column

The duplicate option can be used for many things. This option duplicates any of the columns on the Prep step so you can do things like creating different versions of filters based on that initial column. You can also use it to create multiple questions if you want to see the data in different ways by switching the Chart Style in the clean step or by updating/grouping the answer values.

Question Type Filter

The question type filter can be used to filter down your column list to specific question types. This is mostly used to help with QA.
